HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: This house was built by the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and was used by them until 1989. The national fraternity dissolved the University of Colorado chapter after a pledge suffered the effects of excessive consumption of alcohol. Angry fraternity members then vandalized the house. Fred Hellems, who compiled the two-page list of admission and graduation requirements of U.S. universities, was a Canadian who came to the University of Colorado as a Latin professor in 1898.
